Great turnout for the AT&T Foundry!

On Tuesday May 20, 2014 AT&T’s Dallas Chapter of the Women of AT&T (WOA Dallas) and Dallas SWE partnered   for an exciting and informative discussion at AT&T’s Foundry in Plano, TX.  Over 90 attendees enjoyed refreshments and networking at the Innovation Center. The Plano Foundry is one of five AT&T Foundries in the world. Its unique design facilitates innovation through a collaborative community of technology companies. The Foundry’s open environment fosters creativity and speed to market.

Brent Kendall – Vice President Digital Life Operations gave a brief overview of Digital Life, a consumer product which focuses on security and home automation.

Tracy Moonier – Executive Director Innovation & New Market Development spoke on how AT&T is leveraging each Foundry to innovate.  Tracy describes herself as an ‘Intrapreneur’; she is responsible for AT&T’s New Market Development opportunities in the Foundry Innovation Centers.  Tracy and her team are responsible for uncovering and implementing breakthrough solutions for business customers and for defining new revenue streams for AT&T Business Solutions. Current and past projects include the Connected Car, the Connected Home and AT&T Toggle, an APP that allows employees the ability to securely access their work email, calendars and more from personal mobile devices.

Tracy went on to speak about how AT&T is working to close the Gender Gap related to women in technology. She stated that AT&T has recently partnered with Udacity and Georgia Tech to create a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) curriculum where participants can complete technical courses at home on subjects ranging from Basic Java Programming to Big Data up to and including a Master’s Degree in Computer Science at a nominal cost from Georgia Tech.
