SPEAKERS:  Dallas Area Engineers, Computer Scientists, and other Technologists

ABSTRACT:

Attendees are invited to briefly describe, and possibly show, something related to their job experience. This will be a great opportunity to share and learn more about the work of fellow engineers, while practicing a few communications skills in a friendly environment.  I’m sure we’ll have some surprises, including discovering how much time Donna Mularkey spent on board a U.S. Navy vessel this summer.

We are anticipating more than 100 students, plus parents, educators, and counselors so we need volunteers for tasks such as set-up, registration, and mentoring.  Just as important, some of our volunteers are serving as featured engineers and we’ll all have the opportunity of learning more about each other and our career challenges and successes.

Please come if you’re available for the evening, you’ll find it a rewarding and memorable experience.

NEW YEAR LAUNCHED – October 19

Frisco Director of Engineering Services, Cissy Sylo, proved an out-standing choice for launching our 2004/05 program year.  She is a great role model who is definitely a home grown product, as her engineering education was earned at UT Arlington and all of her engineering experience has been in the greater Dallas area.  Most of us appreciated the manner in which she focused on the positive and credited her co-workers and subordinates with contributing to the environment that has made her accomplishments possible.

NEW FACES OF ENGINEERING

 -

September meeting attendees enthusiastically supported the nomination of Jennifer Ray for consideration as a “New Face of Engineering” for EWEEK 2005.  This will be the third year in which engineers under 30 in age are selected to represent the diversity of people and careers in engineering.  Personally, I believe that Jennifer has an outstanding chance of being selected as the SWE “FACE” because of her collegiate research that addressed structural techniques for surviving strong forces of wind, responsibilities that incorporate this expertise in her work, and volunteer effort for Habitat for Humanity and mentoring of young students.  Speaking of diversity – she was the featured twirler for the Texas Tech Goin Band from Raider Land during her undergrad years.

NEW OFFICERS

Election was unanimous for all candidates.  The best news concerning the election is that our response was positive with 8 in-person ballots in May  and additional 12 snail mail ballots by the September deadline.  We only had one ballot returned with a bad address.  The 20 votes may not seem significant, until consideration is given to the fact that we have fewer than 70 voting members.  THANKS TO ALL who participated, you help to inspire our volunteers.
