Event Recap: Dallas SWE October Professional Development Webinar

Our October Professional Development Webinar featured two impactful sessions focused on career growth, financial empowerment, and protecting yourself in an increasingly digital world.

Sandra Park opened the evening with a powerful discussion on how her financial independence journey reshaped her outlook on career choices, job searching, and finding purpose. She emphasized that women in STEM must openly talk about money, as traditional financial advice often doesn’t reflect the experiences or challenges many women face.

Key takeaways included viewing your income as your seed capital, understanding the importance of momentum and mission, and using tools like budgeting apps to stay intentional with spending and long-term planning.

Following Sandra, Viraj Soni shifted the conversation into the critical realm of fraud prevention. He encouraged attendees to learn about different types of fraud and understand how to mitigate those risks proactively. Viraj highlighted that AI is becoming a major factor in both the rise and detection of fraud, making awareness more essential than ever. Attendees walked away with practical tips for spotting red flags and protecting their financial information—including simple steps like using a reputable VPN service.

Together, the speakers offered a well-rounded evening of insight: from strengthening your financial foundation and purpose-driven career decisions to safeguarding your digital and financial well-being in a rapidly evolving landscape.
