Event Recap: Design Your World 2026

On March 7, middle school students gathered for Dallas SWE’s annual Design Your World STEM conference, a full day of hands-on building, designing, and problem-solving that brought engineering to life.

Students tackled four activity stations spanning mechanical, biomedical, civil/structural engineering, and biology — designing flotation devices, building cardboard robotic hands, stress-testing structures, and exploring the science of DNA. Throughout the day, industry volunteers worked side by side with students, offering guidance, answering questions, and showing what a real career in STEM looks like.

A heartfelt thank you to Vickery Meadow Youth Development Foundation for hosting and making the day possible. Special recognition goes to our activity leads, Isabel Wetegrove, Savitha Pinnepalli, Chenai Sukume, and Adeola Adediran, and to our sponsors, Walter P Moore, Garver, and Dave & Lynn Mortensen, whose support helps drive this event forward.

Design Your World is more than a STEM event, it’s a reminder that engineering is everywhere, and that the next generation of problem-solvers is already building.
