Event Recap: “Own It” Book Club

On Sunday evening, a few of us gathered at Cafe Brazil in Plano to discuss our latest group read: “Own It: The Power of Women at Work” by Sallie Krawcheck. Written by a Wall Street executive turned entrepreneur, this book discussed career development tools and advice, including the value of mentors, sponsors, a good network, etc., as well as the importance of financial literacy and closing the gender investing gap as women. The book generated great discussion topics, in which the group shared their own career experience and advice.

If you would like to participate in the next read, please email Rana.m.karimi@gmail.com to get in on the fun! This is another great way to strengthen your SWE network!

Reminder: Deadline for FY19 Officer Nominations is Friday, April 6!

We need YOUR help to ensure Dallas SWE’s continued success! Read more about the 7 positions we have available in FY19 and e-mail nominations to shelleylstracener@gmail.com by  Friday, April 6th at 11:59pm.

SHALE Magazine 2018 Premiere Organization Award

Dallas SWE was recently awarded SHALE Magazine’s Premiere Organization Award for the Dallas area! They took notice of our mission and drive for helping women engineers and girls in our communities to find a place to grow their focus in their STEM careers. We were chosen in recognition of our organization’s ability to promote inclusion, diversification and passion. We are proud to receive this honor and are excited to share this news with you all!

SHALE is an oil, gas, and business magazine based in San Antonio, TX. While SWE is an organization that spans all engineering and technology industries, we have members from the energy / oil and gas industry including Haliburton, Emerson, Rockwell Automation, and Honeywell. Exxon Mobile has also been a loyal sponsor of many of our Design Your World Outreach events in the past six years.

Dallas SWE and our Design Your World STEM Conference for Girls were featured in SHALE Magazine and our Section President, Shelley Stracener, recorded an interview for their Oil Patch radio show. Check it out on Soundcloud!
