October Professional Development Event Recap: Engineers Without Borders

On Thursday, October 11, Dallas SWE members and guests gathered together and The Olive Garden in Addison to learn more about the great work being carried out by the local North Texas Professional Chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB). Current President Julie Jones gave an engaging presentation on the background of the organization and updated us on current projects. She shared her recent experience in Culli Culli Alto, Bolivia where she and a small group learned about the water needs and culture of the community. EWB is in the process of working with the community to determine a plan to increase water accessibility to improve quality of life and economic activity. SWE Dallas and SMU SWE will host the next Design Your World STEM Conference for girls in grades 6th through 8th on Saturday, November 10th, 2018 at SMU!

The moment you’ve all been waiting for is here! Attendee and volunteer registration for our Design Your World STEM Conference is NOW OPEN!

Design Your World – STEM Conference for Girls is the award-winning signature outreach event brought to you by the Society of Women Engineers Dallas Section, twice a year since 2012.

We invite girls in grade 6th through 8th from the greater Dallas area to experience a day of fun and learning through STEM activities. Parents and educators are also invited to learn about resources to help their kids stay interested in STEM and hear from women engineers about their education and workplace experiences.

Dallas SWE Bylaws Approved

We are pleased to announce that the 30-day voting cycle has closed in the unanimous approval of our amended bylaws! Thanks to all the members who voted. Our bylaws are now in compliance with SWE’s new Governance model. The approved bylaws have been sent back to SWE’s Bylaws Committee and Secretary to be recorded in SWE’s records. The final document will be posted to our website and saved in our section’s archives.

Speaking of voting, don’t forget to check out your own precinct’s voting for upcoming local, state, and federal elections! Visit Vote411.org to get the times and locations for early voting and Nov 6, and to get a sample ballot to aid in your research and preparation to participate in our civic duties.

Volunteers Needed for College 2 Careers Leadership Conference!

Be a part of this College to Careers Leadership Conference (C2CLC) hosted by SHPE DFW, Dallas SWE, and  NSBE DFW! The purpose of the C2CLC is to provide mentoring and professional development assistance for students transitioning to college and onto professional careers. This initiative will serve National Academy Foundation (NAF) high school students throughout the Dallas ISD.

C2CLC will be held on Saturday, November 3rd at UTD. Dallas SWE needs volunteers to help support this event. Thank you for your support in making this event a success!
