Give $25 or more to via the Dallas SWE North Texas Giving Day site on September 17th between 6am and midnight and your donations will be multiplied from a pool of $2 MM of bonus funds and prizes! We’re Invited: Light Reading’s Women in Comms Breakfast

Dallas SWE Members are cordially invited to Light Reading’s Women in Comms Breakfast on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 from 7:15am – 8:30am at The Westin Galleria Dallas.

Light Reading’s Women in Comms breakfast will take a practical look at how to get more women into the STEM field, starting at a young age. We will hear from Brooks McCorcle, president of AT&T Partner Solutions in addition to other top female executives from Verizon, Genband, Intel and Light Reading. Join us for a lively panel discussion on how they are making a difference for women in the industry and strategies for others to do the same.

Co-located at Light Reading’s NFV Everywhere Americas Event in Dallas, TX, Light Reading’s Women in Comms breakfast is free for all women to attend! Additionally, as a member of the Society of Women Engineers you can attend Light Reading’s NFV Everywhere Americas as a VIP attendee. Light Reading’s NFV Everywhere Americas provides complimentary admission for verified employees of service providers, operators, financial & educational institutions, utilities, and government agencies. Event Recap: Lennox International Corporate Membership

On August 31, several members of our Dallas SWE Leadership Team met with employees at Lennox International in Carrollton to present “The Benefits of SWE” and help their employees sign up for new memberships sponsored by Lennox. As a result of this event, we are excited to welcome 24 new members to SWE! Thanks to Dallas SWE President Barbara Read, Executive Vice President Cherrie Fisher, Vice President of Membership Zaineb Ahmad, and Anique Cooley for representing Dallas SWE at this event. On August 31, Lenox International celebrated its new corporate membership with the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) with a breakfast, information session and a membership drive at our global engineering center in Carrollton, TX.  There was great interest and participation with more than 40 people attending the event.

Amanda Widell, Director of Technical Support, and the executive champion for the LII SWE initiative, opened the event with her own personal story of how SWE played a role in her career, “The Society of Women Engineers’ tag line is Aspire, Advance and Achieve. Their goals are not only for students in college, but also for working professionals to help them achieve their full potential in careers as engineers and leaders. I am incredibly excited that our Lennox team is getting involved with SWE.”

Barbara Read, Dallas SWE President and Cherrie Fisher, Dallas SWE Vice President, attended the launch event and shared their personal experiences with SWE and how it has influenced them both professionally and personally.

SWE is an inclusive organization focused on issues of interest to women specializing in engineering and technical careers. The organization assists companies to advance their women engineers and technologists, achieve their diversity recruitment and retention goals and support their leadership training initiatives.

Event Recap: August Younger Professionals Brunch

After taking a summer break from our monthly Younger Professionals brunch, we were back on August 22nd at The Dream Café in Addison. It was a fun time for all attendees and we were particularly pleased that some male young professionals joined us this time!  Thank you everyone for your participation.

Our next brunch is set for September 12th from 11 to 1pm at Grand Lux Café. Please be sure to register and feel free to invite friends and co-workers you know!

September Meeting with High Tech High Heels

We are family – I got all my SWEsters with me!  Welcome back Dallas SWE!

After a well deserved summer break, Dallas SWE will host our first meeting of FY 16 in partnership with the High Tech High Heels Friendraiser.  Dallas SWE has been an active partner with High Tech High Heels for many years.  An organization committed to increase the number of North Texas girls entering a college-level degree program in STEM.  Please join us in supporting HTHH at their  second annual Friendraiser event on September 15th at 6pm. This year the event will be held at Perot Museum of Nature and Science. Please mark your calendar to attend this exciting event to enjoy networking, a silent auction and much more while supporting STEM programs that benefit North Texas students.  There is no charge for admission, but space is limited. Please RSVP for you and a friend by September 4.
