FY27 Dallas SWE Leadership Slate

The Dallas SWE FY26 Nominating Committee is pleased to present the following slate of candidates for your consideration to serve during FY27 (July 1, 2026-June 30, 2027). Ballots will be distributed to members electronically on May 4th and voting will conclude 21 days thereafter.

Per the Dallas SWE Section Agreement with the Society, additional candidates may be nominated by petition, provided that:

  1. The member is eligible for the position;
  2. The member has given written consent to being placed on the ballet;
  3. A minimum of two percent or five of the voting members of the section, whichever is greater, have signed a petition or endorsed an email to place the candidate’s name on the ballot and
  4. The petition, together with the written consent, is submitted to the chair of the nominating committee by April 30 or fifteen days after the slate is announced to the members of the section, whichever is later.

Dallas SWE paid membership as of March 3, 2026 is 394, so the petition endorsement minimum is 7 members. Please send any nominations by petition with the required endorsements and consent of the candidate to the FY26 Nominating Committee Chair, Amanda Alsbrook, at aalsbrook55@gmail.com by April 30th.

We’re looking for volunteers to help run an activity at our table. You’ll spend pre-game and the first 3 innings of the game engaging students and families with hands-on STEAM activities, then get to kick back and enjoy the rest of the game!

Tech Talk: Become a MegaStar – An Intro to Megawatt Charging

Dallas SWE members gathered on February 18 at PACCAR North Texas for an insightful professional development event featuring Nicole Anklam, Charging System Owner and SME at PACCAR. The evening combined technical learning with networking over dinner, offering attendees a deep dive into the future of electrification in heavy-duty transportation.

Nicole began by walking attendees through the evolution of charging hardware, including the different charging levels and charging inlets used across the automotive industry. She also explained the role of communication protocols and standards, highlighting that the emerging Megawatt Charging System (MCS) operates on a single standardized communication protocol designed to support ultra-high-power charging.

A key theme of the talk was the unique challenges of electrifying heavy-duty trucking. Since truckers often drive more than 500 miles in a single trip, vehicles require much larger batteries. Larger batteries create the need for significantly faster charging, which is driving the development of megawatt-level charging capable of delivering up to 3.5 MW of power.

While originally developed for heavy-duty trucking, Nicole emphasized that MCS technology has potential applications across multiple industries, expanding its impact beyond transportation alone.

Another important discussion point was power infrastructure. To bridge the gap between the energy required for megawatt charging and the capacity currently available from the grid, solutions such as microgrids are emerging. Microgrids can help manage energy distribution locally and support the high-power charging needs of future electric fleets.

Nicole concluded by highlighting that the success of the EV ecosystem will depend heavily on collaboration across the industry, particularly between suppliers and OEMs, to ensure that charging infrastructure, vehicle technology, and standards evolve together.

The event provided members with valuable insights into one of the most exciting technological advancements in transportation, while also offering an opportunity to connect with fellow engineers and professionals in the Dallas SWE community.

Dallas SWE Scholarship Applications are Now Open!

High School Scholarships

The Dallas Section of the Society of Women Engineers offers scholarships to graduating seniors from Region 10 high schools who will be majoring in Engineering and to SWE collegiate section members who have demonstrated leadership skills. Scholarships for high school seniors are awarded based on academic excellence and need and must be received by May 15. 

Collegiate Scholarships

The Annie Colaco Collegiate Scholarship is named in honor of Annie Colaco (1899 – 1991) who epitomized selfless service and lifelong learning and is awarded to college students. Applications must be received for this scholarship by May 31. All recipients will be notified by June 15.
