On Friday, December 8, Dallas SWE members and other local women engineering professionals spent several hours at the BEST Robotics competition at the University of Texas at Dallas campus for a Women in Technology panel talk and speed mentoring event. About 150 high school girls from across the state heard from the five panelists and had three one-on-one speed mentoring sessions, asking great questions about what it’s like to be an engineer, how the professionals got to their current positions, and what they love about engineering and technology. The student evaluations were overwhelmingly positive and the mentors really enjoyed sharing their stories! Thanks to UTD, BEST Robotics, and Dallas SWE member Lynn Mortensen for coordinating this event and including Dallas SWE volunteers!

Registration just opened: find registration and hotel information at the WE Local Tulsa website. Registration is through the SWE membership portal which is different from past conferences, but they’ve provided step-by-step instructions to help!

Feb 24 College to Career Conference Registration Open
We are pleased to announce that the second College to Careers Leadership Conference will again be hosted by Dallas SWE, SHPE DFW, and NSBE DFW on Saturday, Feb 24, 2018! We’ll be back at the Meadows Conference Center in downtown Dallas for a full day of networking, professional development, and panel talks for our collegiate counterparts across the DFW area.
Attendees will be junior and senior undergraduates or graduate students seeking career guidance and feedback on their interview skills. We need volunteer professionals to help with registration, panelists, resume reviews, and logistics support. Please register at the link below and share the flyer to the right with college students in your life!

Event Recap: Nov 14 Meeting and Webinar
On Nov, 14, Dallas SWE hosted a meeting at Parr Library and watched a webinar called, “The Lies of the Impostor Complex, Disarming the Critics, the Power of Your Authority and the Support All Around you,” by Tanya Geisler. In the webinar Tanya discussed:
- The 12 lies of the Impostor Complex and their corresponding truths.
- Learning how to identify techniques for how to deal with critics.
- Learning how to identify how to connect deeply with your authority.
- Learning how to assemble support structures.
During the webinar the attendees discussed some of their experience with Impostor Complex and how they learned to overcome it. You can view this recorded webinar, its predecessor, “The 12 lies of the Impostor Complex,” and many others at the SWE Advance Learning Center. These resources are FREE to SWE Members!
