TAMU Commerce (50 miles east of McKinney) Seeking SWE Sponsor

TAMU Commerce, located 50 miles east of McKinney, is interested in starting a SWE Collegiate Interest Group or Section. In order do that they need a professional member from a professional section to be a sponsor/mentor! TAMU Commerce has two ABET undergraduate degrees, Industrial Engineering & Construction Engineering. More details on the school can be found here.

You’d be the SWE cheerleader, providing enthusiasm & motivation to the group leaders & members! Recent collegiate leadership experience would be a bonus, but is not necessary.

“The Sponsor will act as the official reporting conduit to the Society on all matters relating to the CIG (including contact, financial and activities information). The Sponsor also has the flexibility to determine the level & frequency of communication required by the CIG.” – SWE CIG Roles & Responsibilities Procedure

Please contact dallas.swe@gmail.com if you are interested or if you have any questions!

Event Recap: Networking Event with Dallas SWE, NSBE, and SHPE DFW

We successfully held our first, and most certainly not last, SWE/SHPE/NSBE joint mixer.  Not only did we mingle among the other minority engineering professional organizations but we had a panel talk with representatives from each organization.

The panel members were asked questions on how they handle various issues and situations they have faced as minorities in engineering.  There were also great answers regarding how companies can keep Millenials, females, and minorities at in their organizations and how to help them thrive.  Thank you Ashley Dunn from SWE, Christopher Lewis from NSBE, and Brianne Martin from SHPE for being our panel and Barbara Reed from SWE for moderating. After the panel our sponsor American Airlines discussed Engineering at American.

We got some great feedback from attendees on how we can help each other serve our local communities and promote diversity in engineering in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  We look forward to more interaction and collaboration with SHPE and NSBE in the future!
