Leadership wisdom straight from a powerhouse engineer!

September’s Professional Development event at Peterbilt was an absolute hit.

In collaboration with Peterbilt WIN, who just celebrated their 10 year anniversary, we heard from co-founder and Senior Engineering Manager of Operations, Michele Rodgers. With 30 years of experience, Michele is the first female section manager at Peterbilt, oversees 7 supervisors and 90 team members, and is a passionate advocate for women in the workplace.

She shared her insights on modern leadership, including:
⚙️ Understanding DISC personality profiles
⚙️ Insights from leadership 360 assessments
⚙️ How to give feedback that sticks
⚙️ Adapting to different communication and leadership styles
⚙️ Using a networking Venn diagram to identify gaps in your connections
⚙️ Practical tips for building a successful career
⚙️ How generational differences impact learning (ever heard of micro-learning?)

She also spoke about how technology has impacted the workplace, explained what resident engineering is, and even shared a breakdown of how she spends her time at work.

Everyone left inspired, energized, and ready to put these leadership lessons into practice.

👏 Huge thank you to Peterbilt WIN, everyone who attended, and especially to Michele Rodgers for an unforgettable evening!

VMYDF College Festival Recap

Dallas SWE participated in the Vickery Meadow Youth Development Foundation College Festival in October! The festival invites High school students to the Success Center to learn about college, interact with local college representatives, learn tips for applying, and shows them how different college majors lead to real careers. Dallas SWE led activities that explored different fields of engineering (including electrical, mechanical, and biomedical) and initiated discussions on how these fields can show up in different careers. Students got hands-on with a beginner circuitry kit, and saw aspects of different engineering fields with injection molded plastic components for medical devices, a semiconductor wafer, and a 3D printed box. Dallas SWE’s partnership with VMYDF was established in 2023.

Thank you to Dallas SWE volunteers Amanda Alsbrook, Isabel Wetegrove, Adeola Adediran, Danielle Henry, Savitha Pinnepalli, and Lyndsey Bouve.
